Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
Lighting off an Edelbrock Pro-Flo fuel-injected 351 in a cream-and-tan '32 Ford pickup, with Flowmaster mufflers singing out the dual exhaust, is a hot rod wake-up call with modern manners. The 4R70W with its Compushift controller puts shift commands right on the MOMO wheel, and a Kugel 9-inch independent rear with limited-slip and 3.70 gears hooks everything up out back. Power rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel drilled and slotted discs with Hydroboost make this steel-bodied pickup built to be driven!

The cab, hood, grille shell, fenders, running boards, and bed are steel. The body is finished in cream and tan two-tone paint with custom pinstriping, and a louvered hood and fender-mounted headlights with chrome buckets complete the front end. The bed is a custom Mack Hils steel bed with a wood floor, and construction photographs document its fabrication and installation. The fuel filler is concealed beneath a bed slat that opens using a dashboard toggle switch.

Power comes from a 351ci Ford V8 built and installed by Street & Performance, fitted with Edelbrock Pro-Flo electronic fuel injection and intake, Ford Racing valve covers, headers, and a dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. Cooling is handled by an aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan. The engine is paired with a 4R70W four-speed automatic transmission controlled by a Compushift electronic controller and supported by a custom fabricated transmission mount with a Prothane mount. Power is sent to a Kugel 9-inch independent rear suspension with a limited-slip differential and 3.70 gearing and a polished aluminum rear third member.

The chassis is built on a fully boxed frame with a round-tube center section and Kugel Komponents independent suspension at both ends, with front and rear coilovers, stainless-steel front suspension components, and stainless-steel rear control arms. Steering is power rack-and-pinion with a chrome upgrade, and a custom fabricated body mounting structure locates the body.
