Wrench Report

A great combination in performance and convenience parts for a patina cruiser truck. The 355ci small-block V8 displays in a tidy, highly functional engine bay presentation, anchored by an aluminum radiator setup built to handle long-distance power tours. Underneath, the 1969 Camaro front subframe conversion, Global West tubular control arms, power front disc brakes, and 3.08-geared 12-bolt rear end reflect a thoroughly modernized highway chassis setup, and air-conditioning to put the cherry on top.

Description

This 1956 Chevrolet 3100 Series step-side pickup is a restored restomod cruiser powered by a 355ci V8 engine paired with a Turbo-Hydramatic 350 automatic transmission. Built on a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro front subframe featuring Global West tubular A-arms, power front disc brakes, power steering, and a 12-bolt rear end with 3.08 highway gears, this Task Force series truck was completed with modern air conditioning and a custom oak bed. Driven under 5,000 miles since completion and proven on the Hot Rod Power Tour, it is now offered with a clean Arizona title by the selling dealer.

The steel body is finished in white paint with an aged patina finish, rounded out by replacement chrome bumpers, fresh glass, and new rubber weatherstripping. Hand-painted line art and lettering is evident on the tailgate and doors. The step-side bed features refinished oak wood planks with bright trim strips along with a frame-mounted 20-gallon aluminum fuel cell mounted beneath the floor.

The truck rides on staggered Wheel Vintiques red-painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and trim rings, wrapped in BFGoodrich whitewall tires.

The cabin features a custom bench seat upholstered in bright red vinyl, complemented by red and white door panels, a painted red and white dash , and color-keyed carpeting. Comfort and convenience details include a cold-blowing air conditioning system, a new replacement wiring harness, and updated cab insulation.

The interior also features an aftermarket leather wrapped steering wheel mounted to a polished chrome column set ahead of a custom painted dashboard housing a chrome bezel and suite of Auto Meter Vintage Series gauges. A billet column mounted shifter manages the automatic transmission.

The engine bay houses a 355ci Chevrolet small-block V8 engine equipped with an aluminum intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, an electronic ignition system, and a dual exhaust system. Cooling is managed by a heavy-duty aluminum radiator setup running at a steady 180 degrees. Power is sent through a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission to a 12-bolt rear axle equipped with 3.08:1 highway gearing.

The chassis utilizes a 1969 Camaro front subframe swap with Global West tubular upper and lower control arms, updated suspension bushings, and power steering hardware. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes backed by a dual-circuit master cylinder.
