Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
Keeping a '69 Mustang in the same family since 1972 is a rare feat, and this long-term project presents an incredible foundation ready for the next owner to get it across the finish line. Driven by a rebuilt inline-six breathing through a Clifford two-barrel setup and header, it drives far better than its primer-and-patina exterior suggests thanks to a Borgeson power steering conversion, Shelby GT500-spec shocks, and Master Power four-wheel brakes.
Description
This 1969 Ford Mustang Coupe is a second-owner California car that has remained in the seller's family since 1972. Held on a California planned non-operation (PNO) registration status since 1986, the car underwent a long-term mechanical and chassis refurbishment featuring new componentry, updated front-end sheet metal repairs from a low-speed impact, 1970-spec door window conversions, and new weatherstripping. It is offered with the original owner's manual, documentation and a clean California title.

The exterior displays a combination of original finish, primed body panels, and freshly painted Ford Blue door jambs and window surrounds (sourced from a 2003 Mustang color code). Exterior updates include LED headlights, a front chin spoiler, an added Center High-Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL), and new window and door rubber seals. The seller notes that the exterior requires a full repaint, and the front windshield exhibits light scratches and a chip.

The Mustang stands on new 15-inch American Racing Torq Thrust alloy wheels fitted with radial road tires measuring 215/60 R15. Cracking of the tire rubber is evident in the photos.

The cabin is updated with new front seat upholstery, replacement black carpeting, a new dash pad, modern single-belt ALR seat belts, and new weatherstripping throughout. The car retains its factory air conditioning control layout, though the HVAC system is currently disconnected and requires a complete rebuild. The radio is missing, leaving an open mounting slot in the dash area.

The driver operates the car via a three-spoke Grant steering wheel set ahead of the stock instrument cluster. The factory water temperature gauge is currently disconnected to accommodate an aftermarket electric fan thermal switch that has been added and the stock oil pressure gauge is bypassed in favor of an added mechanical oil pressure gauge.

The engine bay houses a 250ci inline 6-cylinder engine that was rebuilt with a new timing chain and gear set, oil pump, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, battery, full electronic distributor, and MSD ignition. Upgrades include a Clifford Performance two-barrel carburetor conversion kit, a Clifford Performance exhaust header, a three-row aluminum radiator, and an electric cooling fan. Power is sent through an automatic transmission with new seals, a rebuilt driveshaft with replacement U-joints, and a solid rear axle. The seller notes a minor oil leak from the rear differential seals.

The chassis benefits from a Borgeson modern power steering conversion, a new fuel tank, new wheel bearings, replacement shocks built to Shelby GT500 specifications, and a heavy-duty Cobra/Mach 1-spec front sway bar fitted with urethane bushings. Exhaust is handled via a newly installed exhaust system. Stopping power is provided by an upgraded Master Power four-wheel power brake system, equipped with disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear.
