The combination of a rebuilt carburetor, fresh valve cover seals, and a complete engine flush brings this 351ci Windsor V8 back to true running form, while the freshly serviced automatic transmission and four-wheel brake replacement deliver smooth, confident stops. It's a fully sorted, low-and-slow Mercury Cougar built for the boulevard, backed by a front-to-rear air bag suspension system and ready to cruise.

Description

This 1976 Mercury Cougar XJ7 two-door coupe shows 83,016 miles and has been with its current owner for roughly 15 years, spending its first decade tucked away in the garage before a full build got underway about five years ago. Since then, the owner has personally handled the vast majority of the work, bringing the car's 351ci Windsor V8 and automatic transmission back to running condition with a rebuilt carburetor and fresh valve cover seals, servicing the transmission, replacing brakes at all four corners, and performing a complete engine flush. With just under $30,000 invested in the build to date, this Cougar presents as a finished custom with a clean California title.

The body was stripped down to bare metal, repaired where needed, primered, and block-sanded before application of a Mercedes Chestnut Brown finish with gold flake. The side moldings and vinyl top were removed and the trim smoothed over, and the bumpers were rechromed.

The car rides on a set of polished aluminum 17-inch Nitro wheels up front and 18-inch Nitro wheels out back, mounted [with matching tires]. The original 14-inch, 100-spoke wire wheels and the set of tires to which they are mounted will be included with the sale.

Inside, the original interior was completely removed and replaced with custom beige front bucket seats and a center console in place of the factory layout. A Kenwood AM/FM CD player was installed for modern audio and the car features power windows and locks, as well as a button for operating the air bag suspension system.

Behind the chrome and wood wheel remains the original gauge cluster, with the odometer showing 83,016 miles, the column shifter for the 3-speed automatic and the factory climate controls. Some scuffs and scratches are notable on areas of the dash fascia.

Mechanically, the owner focused on refreshing the original 351ci Windsor V8 and 3-speed automatic transmission. The carburetor was rebuilt, the valve cover seals were replaced, the engine received a complete flush, and the transmission was serviced rather than rebuilt or replaced.

Ride height and stance are controlled by the front-and-rear, side-to-side air bag suspension system, giving the Cougar a fully adjustable lowrider ride quality along with the ability to air out for shows or lay low on the boulevard. The brakes were replaced during the build to back up the fresh mechanical work underneath.

Hello my name in Andy Diaz, I have owned this Cougar for the past 15 years was setting in my garage, I had a vision of what it could look like! after 10 years I retired and started to work on it started off slow removed beat up half vinyl top first then removed all side molding as the molding on this car where ugly! braised up on the holes, then started to tear it down inside and out. all chrome was sent out and then car was sent to paint shop then to get upholstery completely re-done adding bucket seat and console. I f you have any questions I would be glade to speak with you.
