Wrench Report

Go Package hardware, a rebuilt 390, and a body stripped to bare metal make this AMX real AMC muscle! A 600-cfm Quick Fuel carb feeds the rebuilt V8, the Shift-Command automatic sends power through a Twin-Grip diff, and power front discs, a heavy-duty cooling system, and cold A/C round out a muscle car built to be driven!

Description

Stripped to bare metal, reworked, and repainted in 2018, this 1969 AMC AMX is a Go Package car and one of 8,293 AMX models produced that year. Powered by a rebuilt 390ci V8 with a 600-cfm Quick Fuel carburetor and paired with a rebuilt Shift-Command three-speed automatic floor-shift transmission, this AMC features the factory Go Package, power front disc brakes, a Twin-Grip limited-slip differential, dual exhaust, and cold air conditioning. The seller reports the car has never been in an accident, and the five-digit odometer shows 1,060 miles, believed to be 101,060. It is now offered with owner's books, the original Carter carburetor, and a clean Arizona title.

Bare metal was the starting point in 2018, when the body was stripped, reworked, and painted black with white stripes to match the "Go Package" scheme. The front bumper was replaced in 2022, and the two corner bumper brackets are in the trunk because they were not installed on the new bumper.

The car rides on Winston Winner GT tires. The factory Go Package specifies 14x6-inch styled steel wheels.

A stick-on sheet covers the driver seat, which needs a new cover, and the driver seat latch does not work every time and needs attention. The air conditioning is said to blow cold.

A GPS speedometer replaces the original, whose needle fell off inside the gauge and rests at the bottom of the unit. The five-digit odometer works and shows 1,060 miles, believed to be 101,060, and the transmission is floor shifted.

The 390ci V8 and Shift-Command three-speed automatic were rebuilt to factory stock at 100,000 miles, and a 600-cfm Quick Fuel carburetor was installed. The fuel tank was removed and boiled out in August 2026, and a new sending unit was installed. Go Package equipment includes a heavy-duty cooling system with a seven-blade Power-Flex fan and fan shroud, a dual exhaust system, and a Twin-Grip limited-slip differential.

Go Package chassis equipment includes power front disc brakes and an upgraded handling suspension with stiffer springs, heavy-duty shocks, and a thick front anti-roll bar.
