Lots of pre-war custom character in this build. Dropping in a classic Chevy small-block V8 and TH350 auto into this vintage deluxe sedan results in a reliable cruiser. The seller has done a service including many videos that show this car doing everything right. Between the choppy noises from that V8 and the suicide doors, this P8 is sure to be loads of fun for the next owner.

Description

This 1939 Plymouth P8 Deluxe Touring Sedan is a custom street rod that combines pre-war classic styling with small-block Chevrolet power, custom pinstriping, and modern mechanical components. Acquired by the current owner in 2018, the build was completed approximately six years ago and has been driven 1,700 miles since. The car utilizes a reliable performance-oriented drivetrain, updated secondary controls, and an adjustable rear stance. Located in Washington, the vehicle is now offered with a clean Washington title.

The all-steel body has been refinished in gloss white paint accented by elaborate, old-school turquoise and purple custom pinstriping flourishes across the hood, sides, and trunk. Modifications include a conversion to a sleek, single-piece front windshield, tinted glass, bumper-mounted front indicators, and dual exhaust outlets with polished finishers.

The classic four-door silhouette retains its functional cowl vent, round side mirrors, chrome bumpers, and distinctive rear-hinged "suicide" rear doors.

The street rod stands on 15-inch American Racing alloy wheels that feature a polished finish. The suspension has been lowered for a more aggressive profile, utilizing a coil-spring front assembly and a live rear axle with parallel leaf springs and manually adjustable air shocks to tune rear ride height. Braking has been modernized with a power brake booster and a dual-circuit master cylinder connected to four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.

The interior is fully customized with a two-tone color scheme, featuring spacious front and rear bench seats wrapped in clean white upholstery contrasted by turquoise door panels and color-coordinated carpets. Black rubber floor mats protect the footwells, and the custom theme extends to a Sony digital media receiver tucked into the cabin layout. The painted dashboard mirrors the exterior style, complete with matching hand-painted pinstriped details.

The driver operates a three-spoke steering wheel fitted with a chrome horn ring, which sits ahead of a column-mounted Equus tachometer. A modern suite of AutoMeter instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer alongside auxiliary gauges monitoring vital engine vitals. Gear selection is handled by a floor shifter disguised as a traditional manual stick shift, which operates the automatic gearbox.

The engine bay houses a cleanly installed 350ci Chevrolet small-block V8 performance build featuring a mild race camshaft. The engine is outfitted with an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, a high-energy ignition coil, a modern distributor, and a high-output 110-amp chrome alternator. The engine is dressed with matching finned Edelbrock valve covers and a coordinated air cleaner lid.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a durable Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, while exhaust gases exit through aftermarket headers linked to a dual exhaust system. This '39 Plymouth was previously listed on BuyTheCar here.

Being from the Pacific Northwest, can you reasonably say that this vehicle is rust-free? How much, if any, Bondo was used in the restoration?

I have actually taken a "pull magnet" to all the surfaces of the car and there is very little panel repair work done and they used the higher quality Fiberglass not bondo and the paintwork is top flight not to mention the Hand Pinstriping which carries over to the interior. There is certainly no rust on it now the frame and all exposed parts you can see are very clean and the underside of all the fenders and such are also clean no rust and properly coated now

A/C is an easy add with all the cool aftermarket stuff, here in WA A/C is not a concern - I drove it in the 85 degree heat for 160 mile round trip just opened wing windows and the center fresh air vent and it was plenty cool -

I live in Ohio where it gets hot & very humid; it just sucks the life right out of you. I'm also not handy, so I'd have to pay someone to put it in. I love the fact that it's a Plymouth, unique car!!

Power steering?

It has a Rack & Pinion type Power slave underneath in the (see the attached pic) that big tube with the ribbed rubber tubing) and this type of steering assist mechanism works like power steering making it very easy to maneuver even at a standstill
