Wrench Report

By Chris Esparza

RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.

Firing up the swapped 440ci big-block sends a deep, menacing rumble straight out the side pipes. What I love most about these first-gen Chargers is that wild four-bucket interior with the full-length console; it feels like driving a space-age jet wrapped in 60s muscle. The gold paint, cowl hood, and Cragar wheels give it an unapologetic muscle attitude, while power steering provides an essential improvement to maneuver these big B-bodies.

Description

This 1966 Dodge Charger is a first-year fastback muscle car finished in gold with contrasting black accents. Originally equipped with a 383ci V8, the car is now powered by an upgraded 440ci big-block V8 paired with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Equipment includes power steering, power brakes, a side-pipe exhaust system, Cragar wheels, and the model's signature four-bucket-seat interior layout. It is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Washington title.

The exterior features gold paint accented by black details and body contours. Exterior modifications include an aftermarket cowl induction hood, bright side-pipe exhaust outlets, concealed rotating headlights in the full-width front grille, chrome bumpers, and classic Charger fastback roofline styling.

The Charger rides on 15-inch Cragar S/S alloy wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 225/70 R15 in front and 275/60 R15 in the rear.

The cabin retains the first-generation Charger layout featuring four individual black vinyl bucket seats--two in the front and two in the rear--separated by a full-length center console with a rear fold-down armrest. Interior features include interior courtesy lighting and an aftermarket stereo deck unit mounted in the dash.

The driver operates the car via a factory steering wheel set ahead of electro-luminescent instrument gauges.

The engine bay houses a 440ci big-block V8 swapped in place of the factory 383ci engine. Induction is handled via a four-barrel carburetor, while exhaust flows through aftermarket headers into the side-exit exhaust system. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a heavy-duty rear differential.

The B-body chassis is equipped with power-assisted steering. Stopping power is managed by a power-assisted hydraulic brake system.

Why doesn’t it show the reserve amount? If it’s crazy it would keep some from bidding

ConroyClassics Seller Sep 10, 10:54 am PDT
We do not advertise the reserve price, we try and keep competitive with current market values. We hope bidders will bid an amount they are comfortable with and hopefully we can make a deal
