Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
Idaho Muscle Cars continues to raise the bar on fully functional, no-nonsense gorgeous restomods that save the chrome while modernizing just about everything else. That 550-hp big block is pure muscle car bliss, just listen to it in the start-up video! The instant throttle response from the Holley Sniper 2 EFI combined with the crisp shifts of the Tremec TKX turns this A-body into an absolute street menace. They nailed the stance and finish--the 14-inch Wilwood stoppers bring all that big-block momentum to a halt effortlessly, while the QA1 coilovers and Vintage Air make it handle and feel like a modern performance machine.
Description
This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is a pro-touring restomod completed in 2024 by Idaho Muscle Cars in Boise, Idaho. Built on a true Super Sport chassis verified by the 138-code in the VIN, the car underwent a rotisserie restoration including media blasting, epoxy sealing, and new steel body panels. Powered by a 550-horsepower, big-block Chevy V8 paired with a Tremec TKX five-speed manual transmission, this Chevelle features Holley Sniper 2 EFI, QA1 suspension, Wilwood 14-inch disc brakes, and Vintage Air climate control. The seller estimates that $180,000 was invested in the build. It is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with build documentation and a clean Idaho title.

The body was stripped to bare metal, fitted with new steel quarter panels, roof skin, and deck filler panel, and finished without lead fillers. The exterior is painted in PPG basecoat with SS stripes buried under five coats of cut and polished clearcoat. The frame was sandblasted and finished in satin black, while the underbody is sealed in Raptor Liner texture coating. Additional trim includes replaced or refinished chrome bumpers, bright window surrounds, and factory-style SS badging.

The car rides on custom Budnik alloy wheels that measure 18-inches in front and 19-inches wrapped in Nitto NT555 performance radial tires measuring 275/35 ZR18 in front, and 305/35 ZR19 in back. The front tires are 2 years old, and the rear tires are 3 years old.

The cabin features a TMI interior with upholstered sport seats, a matching TMI headliner, custom door panels, and fresh carpeting all in a matching black color scheme. Interior updates include a Painless Wiring harness and fuse panel, and custom foot pedals.

The driver operates the car via a leather-wrapped Budnik steering wheel mounted to a tilt steering column facing updated instrumentation. A Vintage Air heating and air conditioning system is equipped, with switches set into the dashboard.

The engine bay houses a 550-horsepower, big-block Chevy V8 equipped with Holley Sniper 2 electronic fuel injection, a Vintage Air Front Runner serpentine drive system, and SPAL dual electric cooling fans. Exhaust flows through performance headers into a 3-inch dual exhaust with an X-pipe. Power is sent through a Tremec TKX five-speed manual transmission to a 12-bolt rear end featuring a Positraction differential and 3.73:1 gears.

The chassis is upgraded with QA1 tubular control arms and QA1 adjustable coilovers. Stopping power is provided by 14-inch Wilwood four-wheel power disc brakes.

Beautiful Chevelle. Can the seller confirm the mileage since the build was completed, whether build receipts and engine documentation are included, and whether there are any known mechanical, electrical, paint, body or drivability issues?
Will an engine build sheet & reciepts come with Chevelle ?
ALSO WILL THIS BUILD RUN WELL ON PUMP GAS ?
THANKS
Thank you for the clarification. Since the dash tag is partially obscured by paint and the listing previously required a correction regarding the engine specification, would you be willing to post:
A photo of the title with personal information redacted, showing the VIN.
Photos of the secondary/hidden VIN stampings and confirmation that they match the dash VIN.
Additional information on the engine, including whether it was rebuilt, who performed the build, when it was completed, and approximately how many miles have been driven since completion.
I am not suggesting there is an issue, but given the quality, value, and level of restoration on this build, that documentation would help prospective bidders complete their due diligence and fully address any remaining VIN and drivetrain-related questions.
Also, can you also confirm that the car has a current clean Idaho title in the owner’s name, free of any liens or title brands, and that the VIN on the title is 138378Z164790? Also, has the car ever had a state-assigned/reassigned VIN or any title/VIN issue during or after the restoration?
Hi! Could you provide a clear, wider photo of the VIN shown in photo 124 and clarify whether this is the original factory VIN tag? It appears in the photo that the VIN may be stamped directly into the metal rather than on a separate factory tag. If the original VIN tag was removed, replaced or reattached during restoration, was that process documented with Idaho ITD/DMV? Also, have the secondary VIN stampings been verified to match?
Is the engine a 427 or a 454. The covers and badging say 427, listing mentions 454. Also can you post some hi res photos of the underside including dropoffs, pans, suspension and transmission areas. Thanks.

The online photos appear to show a matte or satin finish rather than a high-gloss finish. Could you please clarify the paint finish? Is the vehicle painted in a matte/satin finish, or does it have a traditional high-gloss clear coat? If possible, could you also provide a few close-up photos in direct sunlight?
