Description
This 1969 AMC AMX is a short-wheelbase two-seater muscle car that underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration and a recent mechanical recommissioning. This is a true X-code 390 car, powered by a rebuilt 390ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. This AMX features a front disc brake conversion, upgraded front and rear sway bars, power steering, and a rebuilt rear end with a limited-slip differential. It is now offered with extensive restoration receipts, rebuild records, and a clean Washington title.
The body was stripped to bare metal on a rotisserie during the restoration, undergoing rust remediation before being refinished in black. Exterior trim highlights include polished stainless trim, bright bumpers, dual exhaust tips, fresh weatherstripping, "390" fender badging, and a blacked-out rear valance. Cracks in the paint near the rear window and C-pillars are noted, and some scratches are evident on the window glass.
The car rides on 14x7-inch American Racing Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Silvertown redline radial tires.
The cabin features black vinyl bucket seats, a center console with replacement lid, fresh door glass, and updated window track rollers. Interior appointments include woodgrain dash trim, a floor-mounted shifter with a rebuilt shift linkage, a cleaned neutral safety switch, and an operational ignition switch setup.
The interior also features a color-matched steering wheel on a tilt column positioned ahead of factory instrumentation including a speedometer, tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The odometer shows 13,453 miles (TMU). The seller notes that the tachometer needle needs to be re-attached to its post, and that the wipers work intermittently.
The engine bay houses a rebuilt 390ci AMC V8 equipped with ported cylinder heads, a balanced rotating assembly, ARP head bolts, and an overhauled Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor. Ignition timing and carb tuning were recently performed, while cooling is supported by a factory-style radiator setup. Exhaust flows through dual exhaust outlets. Power is routed through a rebuilt three-speed automatic transmission with a fresh torque converter and transmission mount, feeding a rebuilt rear end featuring a limited-slip differential. The seller notes that the valve cover tag indicates the engine was built in September of 1969, but it is not possible to verify if the engine is numbers matching as AMC did not stamp VINs on their engine blocks during this era.

As far as the gauges I never asked. From what I researched and pics I have seen they look original. This was the only Pre-Rest photo I was provided. The only imperfections is the small cracking. There is no evidence of rust IE bubbling ETC anywhere. Other than the cracks the paint is Steller. Albeit could use a wax:)
have the 2 round analog gauges on the dash aftermarket? Original? I see others mentioned paint issues. You say this was restored; Do you have pics of the condition prior to restore? Did it show rust damage? I am a paint and body guy... thats my concern. Can you post those photos.
What was the original exterior and interior color? How long ago was the rotisserie restoration? Any reason why the pain is flaking so bad if this was completely restored?
I purchased the car 5 years ago. Really don’t want to sell but it’s simply a financial issue. I have kept garaged and stored for winter every year. Battery out, gas treated ETC. Car runs super strong and handles quite well. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, Tom.
