Wrench Report

By Chris Esparza

RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.

Nothing says legendary Mopar muscle quite like a factory RM23-code B-body packing a 440 big-block and a four-speed manual. Whoever restored this car also kept it true to form by saving the factory Road Runner "Beep Beep" horn, which I really like. This is a great blue on blue example that almost seems to invoke the colors of the cartoon bird himself. Mopar fanatics looking to add another to their collection will definitely be keeping their eyes on this one.

Description

This 1969 Plymouth Road Runner is a factory RM23-code hardtop coupe powered by a 440ci big-block V8 paired with a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission. Featuring performance induction and ignition upgrades, classic Mopar styling, and its iconic signature horn, the car represents the classic muscle car package built on Chrysler's B-body platform. It is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Oregon title.

The exterior is painted in blue and retains factory B-body hardtop bodywork complete with original-style chrome bumpers, a dual-outlet exhaust setup, bright window trim, and factory Road Runner badging. The vehicle features its fully functional factory "Beep-Beep" horn.

The Road Runner stands on 15-inch classic Mopar Magnum 500-style steel wheels wrapped in Kelly Charger radial tires measuring 255/60 R15 in front and back.

The cabin features factory-style seating and interior trim in a light and deep blue color scheme, maintaining a period-correct layout with front bucket seats, rear bench and light blue carpet.

The driver operates the vehicle via a factory three-spoke steering wheel set ahead of the standard B-body instrument cluster. The manual transmission is operated by a T-grip style shifter.

The engine bay houses a 440ci big-block V8 upgraded with an aluminum intake manifold, an MSD distributor, and Hooker exhaust headers. Power is sent through a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission to a heavy-duty Chrysler rear differential.

The chassis retains its factory torsion-bar front suspension and leaf-spring rear axle assembly. Stopping power is provided by standard hydraulic drum brakes.

I thought the only engine option was a hemi?

BadAzp Sep 2, 5:12 pm PDT
RR was 383 or Hemi only until 1970 unless it is a 69.5 6pak car which this isn't
Quincy Sep 2, 5:20 pm PDT
Wow. Of course. Speaks to my dementia. I once owned a six-pak RR. Ugh.
