Wrench Report

RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.

At first glance, this 'Cuda strikes you as a masterclass in custom metalwork and stance. The flush glass and shaved body lines give the iconic E-body shape a remarkably seamless, modern profile. I really like that they chose a Gen II HEMI for this build and they've dressed it up so elegantly that I had to do a double take while flipping through the photo gallery. The whole car is just on another level, just look at that color-matched one-off chassis! Really excited to see some big time Mopar collectors get in on the action here.

Description

This 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda is a one-off restomod that was built by Todd Redenshek at Excalibur Auto. Work began in 2010 and the overall build reaching completion in 2024. Known as "Hell's Hemi," the car features an updated aftermarket chassis, a late-model interior conversion, metal fabrication, and an accolade history that includes a Builder's Choice Award at the 2024 Good Guys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale alongside multiple regional event awards through 2026. The car has accumulated 5,000 miles on the digital odometer since the build was completed, and is now being offered by the private seller with a clean Arizona title.

The body is finished in PPG "Wicked Green Apple" paint accented by hand-painted pin-striping of the "HEMI" rear quarter stripes and the gill-stripes on the hood, with the undercarriage and frame painted to match the exterior color. Unique body alterations include shaved door handles with electrically operated door locks, shaved bumpers, and flush-mounted window glass.

The car sits on a staggered set of Billet Specialties wheels, with diameters measuring 18 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear. Equipped in the rear are wider high performance BFGoodrich g-Force T/A tires measuring 295/45R20. The fender wells have been modified to fit wider BFGoodrich g-Force T/A tires in the front, measuring 225/45ZR18. A closer look at the custom pin-striped rear quarter stripes are also visible in the photo.

The cabin features a full interior installed by Restylers City Inc., utilizing modified power bucket seats sourced from a 2004 Pontiac GTO. The front and rear seats and surrounding trim are fully upholstered in black and grey leather. Switches on the center console power both the door windows and the rear quarter glass. The interior includes a custom-fabricated headliner, matching door panels, and updated carpeting adorned with floor mats embroidered with the Plymouth 'Cuda logos.

The driver operates the car via an aftermarket leather wrapped steering wheel on a tilt column set ahead of a leather-trimmed dashboard. Instrumentation is provided by a cluster of LED Auto Meter gauges in a brushed aluminum finish. Gear selection for the transmission and overdrive unit is managed by a floor-mounted HURST shifter setup. The vehicle has Vintage Air climate controls.

The engine bay has been painted in "Wicked Green Apple" and features hand-fabricated inner panels and houses a Gen II 426ci HEMI V8 crate engine rated at 465 horsepower. The engine is built with a 10.0:1 compression ratio and is fitted with a unique air intake and shroud, a billet accessory drive and anodized fluid fittings. The seller states that number "426" combined with the part number "P5153843" signifies a heavy-duty aftermarket cast-iron engine block sold by Mopar Performance for Chrysler 426 HEMI and 440 Wedge big block applications. The seller also notes that "P5153843" and "Mopar" are stamped on the engine block, and according to known HEMI engine builder Paul Rossi, the engine block sourced for this car was most likely cast sometime in the 1970s. Cooling is provided by a Wizard Cooling aluminum radiator. Power is sent through a built TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission with a 3,200-RPM stall converter and a Gear Vendors overdrive unit, leading to a Ford 9-inch rear end. Also equipped are heat wrapped long tube headers that were created for this build, which attach to a 3 inch exhaust system with Borla mufflers, with tips that exit out through the rear valance.

The car sits on a "Wicked Green Apple" body color matched custom-made chassis featuring TVC coilovers, a four-link rear suspension design, and front and rear sway bars. Stopping power is provided by a 4 wheel Wilwood power disc brake system featuring chrome calipers, 14 inch front rotors, 12 inch rear rotors, and utilizes a Wilwood master cylinder and brake booster. Nearly the entire underside, including the floorpans, rear axle, fuel tank, oil pan, transmission pan and front suspension is painted in the same color as the body.

Do the doors open with a keybob remote? Is there an external hidden manual override in case of power failure? Thanks
