Wrench Report

By Chris Esparza

RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.

Lots of road racing-style performance and modern suspension engineering. The build pairs a blueprinted 390-horsepower 355ci V8 crate engine with a traditional four-speed manual transmission, all riding on an adjustable Shark Bite rear coilover system and Manual Wilwood disc brakes. While this is a Corvette that has been tuned for sport performance, you still get air conditioning, comfortable seats and a Bluetooth stereo.

Description

This 1972 Chevrolet Corvette coupe is a restored example that was professionally built in North Carolina between 2018 and 2019 for road racing-style performance. Following its construction, the vehicle was kept in climate-controlled storage for over five years before being acquired by the current owner in 2025. It has since undergone comprehensive mechanical sorting by professional technicians, including suspension tuning, a carburetor tune, and steering column upgrades. Driven less than 2,000 miles since the completion of the build, this highly modified Corvette is garage-kept, driven weekly to local events, and is offered for sale with a clean Kentucky title.

The exterior is finished in the striking Lamborghini shade of Arancio Canguro (Kangaroo Orange). The body retains its iconic aerodynamic styling, accented by a set of newly replaced headlights and fresh windshield wiper blades installed during recent servicing in 2025.

The Corvette rides on 15 inch vintage Ansen Sprint slot mag wheels mounted with a fresh set of Cooper Cobra radial G/T tires in a squared 235/60/R15 setup.

The cabin is trimmed in classic tan upholstery featuring upgraded three-piece seatbelts for enhanced driver safety. Comfort has been modernized with the installation of a Classic Auto Air conditioning system. Other interior features include an updated steering wheel mounted to a newly installed tilt and telescopic steering column. Entertainment has been upgraded with a Kenwood Bluetooth-equipped CD stereo head unit.

The engine compartment houses a blueprinted and dyno-tested 355ci long-block V8 crate engine from Summit Racing rated at 390 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a Holley Brawler carburetor, an HEI tachometer-drive distributor, and a newly installed Holley fuel pump. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a traditional four-speed manual transmission.

The chassis is re-engineered for precise handling, anchored by a prominent Shark Bite rear crossover coilover suspension system by Speed Direct. The system was professionally adjusted in 2025 to soften the spring rate from its original, aggressive track-day settings for more compliant road use. Stopping power is managed by a high-performance Wilwood manual disc brake system utilizing ceramic brake pads at all four corners.

Do you have a Car Fax ?

joeshmo Staff Jul 22, 3:52 pm PDT
@steward576 CarFax cannot provide vehicle reports on model years before the standardized 17-digit VIN system that began in 1981.
mpl1989 • Jul 22, 2:21 pm PDT

Saw down below you mentioned you were going to get it inspected. Will you be releasing that information to the bidders?

Skrock51 Seller Jul 22, 5:28 pm PDT
If they find anything I’ll have it fixed but I’m not expecting anything. I can let you know. I’m having them adjust the shark bite suspension to make it a little less firm. It was thoroughly inspected a few hundred miles ago. But I want the garage to look it over while they’re under the car.
mpl1989 • Jul 22, 12:23 pm PDT

Very interested, but like a couple of the other questions would like to know the ground clearance from the exhaust

Skrock51 Seller Jul 22, 1:57 pm PDT
I’ll measure it tomorrow afternoon. The shark bite suspension is adjustable for firmness and height. It can be adjusted higher. I have never hit bottom but if going too fast over something like a speed bump like almost all sports cars you’ll hit.
Skrock51 Seller Jul 22, 5:53 pm PDT
I’m picking up the car in Thursday now. I’ll let you know
rbbuddy • Jul 22, 8:48 am PDT

The exhaust is pretty low, does it scrap when driving?

Skrock51 Seller Jul 22, 2:00 pm PDT
Never. The shark bite suspension is firm. It can also be adjusted higher. If you go over a speed bump too fast it could scrape but I’ve never had it hit.

The shark bite suspension has approx a 4 inch height adjustment possible. It can also be adjusted with different springs. Right now it set fairly low, (Inever measured it). The car is being inspected at Performsnce auto right now so I can measure it for you but when Ai pick it up I can if you want the exact distance. I can tell you I never had it hit bottom but like many car if you go over a , for example, speed bump to fast it will hit. I know because I hit bottom with a stock C6 I had.C6

Sorry for the typo’s. When you get to the end of a line you can’t see what you’re typing or go back.
EscapeRocks • Jul 21, 1:05 pm PDT

Love the Sharkbite suspension. Can you tell me the ground clearance where the exhaust has to wrap under it?

Does Vette still have vacuum hoses to the headlights or are they electric.

Skrock51 Seller Jul 18, 2:34 pm PDT
Vacuum and they work fine as do the wipers

Listing says power brakes but photos show manual master cylinder with no booster. Please confirm.

Skrock51 Seller Jul 18, 6:00 am PDT
The car has Willwood brakes. Ceramic is like new. The car is at the Performance shop right now getting looked over before I sell it. I will call them Monday and see if they’ll take a picture or confirm.
Skrock51 Seller Jul 18, 8:03 am PDT
Sorry for the brain cramp. This car was set up for road racing and MANUAL brakes which are preferred in road racing. When I submitted the info I just had Willwood brakes and the write up reads power. 100% my fault because it was my responsibility to check and find error and I obviously didn’t on this. I’ll have but=y a car change it. I’ve never done it or had it done but the range to change to power using vacuum boost and wilwood master cylinders is between $200-800. (Quite a range)
joeshmo Staff Jul 18, 8:54 am PDT
We've gone ahead and updated the listing to say "manual disc" instead of "power disc" in the build list and description.
