Grab that Hurst Dual/Gate shifter, drop the hammer on the 455ci Rocket V8, and let the functional ram-air hood feed one of only 633 Hurst/Olds coupes produced for 1972. Dressed in factory Cameo White with iconic gold striping and official Indy 500 Pace Car graphics, this California-titled muscle icon delivers big-block torque, Super Stock III wheels, and undeniable 1970s boulevard presence.

Description

This 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds is one of 633 examples produced for the model year and is powered by a 455ci Rocket V8 linked to a Turbo Hydra-matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. Acquired by the current owner in 2022, the car features Cameo White paint with iconic gold striping, Indy 500 Festival graphics, power steering, power front disc brakes, and a Hurst Dual/Gate shifter. It is now offered on behalf of the current owner with literature, spare parts, and a clean California title.

The exterior is finished in factory Cameo White (Paint Code 11-11) accented by gold striping and Indy 500 Festival and Indianapolis Motor Speedway decals. Exterior features include a twin-scoop fiberglass ram-air hood, quad headlights, chrome bumpers, Hurst/Olds badging, and trumpet-style dual exhaust tips exiting through the rear bumper cutout.

The Hurst/Olds stands on 14-inch gold-finished Super Stock III wheels wrapped in Big O Euro SXP radial tires.

The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl (Trim Code 970) over Strato front bucket seats and a matching rear bench, complemented by woodgrain trim accents on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Equipment includes a center console housing a Hurst Dual/Gate shifter and a retro-style stereo head unit. The seller notes that the factory air conditioning system and 8-track tape player are currently non-functional.

The driver operates the car via a four-spoke steering wheel facing a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and a fuel/temperature combination gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer displays 59,000 miles, approximately 5,000 of which were added under current ownership.

The engine bay houses a 455ci W45-code Rocket V8 fitted with a Holley carburetor and functional ram-air induction system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission.

The chassis is equipped with power-assisted steering. Stopping power is managed by a power brake system utilizing front disc brakes and rear drums.

Can you identify any body imperfections that you see?

AuctionGarage Seller Sep 10, 6:50 am PDT
Thanks for the comment. Nothing stands out to me in person or in the photos. The car has been kept in the owner’s private showroom since he purchased it in 2022 and has seen very limited use during that time.

What body work has been done? Is there any rust coming through? Can we see pictures of the door skins and trunk drop offs please

AuctionGarage Seller Sep 9, 11:13 am PDT
Thanks for the question. I’m representing the owner on the sale, and I don’t have documentation on any previous bodywork, so I don’t want to speculate on what may have been done before he acquired the car in 2022. What I can say is there is no rust currently showing through on the car, and there are several underside photos in the gallery showing its current condition. Unfortunately, I don’t have any additional photos of the door skins or trunk drop-offs beyond what’s already included in the listing. The car has spent the majority of the current ownership in a private showroom with very limited use.
