Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
Having owned a Fox body Mustang a lifetime ago, I can tell you that this one is set up to be a head turner as well as drag strip capable. This one comes with the kinds of upgrades you wanna see on a street to strip build. Bored .030-over 351ci Windsor V8 paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, a 5-lug wheel conversion, a 4-wheel power disc brake setup, bolt-on subframe connectors and stiffer shocks.
Description
This 1985 Ford Mustang GT is a customized hatchback that was acquired by the seller in 2004. Originally equipped with a 302ci engine, the car was rebuilt by the seller as a long-term project, receiving a modified 351ci Windsor V8 engine, updated 5-lug wheel hubs, chassis components, custom exterior paint, and interior changes. The vehicle has been garage-kept during current ownership, driven under 12,000 miles over the past 10 years, and is offered by the private seller with a clear North Carolina title.

The body was stripped to bare metal and painted in 2002 Ford Zinc Yellow (paint code B7) during a 2005 refinishing process. A front nose section from a 1984 model year Mustang was installed. The roof features a center-mounted antenna base fitted with a custom short antenna shaft. The seller states that no body filler was found during disassembly and that the body shows no evidence of prior collision damage or undercoating.

The car stands on a 5-lug wheel conversion sporting 15 inch Vision 5-spoke wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich road tires. The body retains its factory Fox-body glass and hatchback profile.

The interior features replaced front bucket seats fitted with H-style harness seatbelts. The factory dashboard is fitted with a cover, a dash-mounted tachometer, and pillar-mounted mechanical auxiliary gauges. The sound system consists of an aftermarket CD player with a USB input wired to four speakers. The driver operates the car via an aftermarket rubber snake skin wrapped steering wheel and standard floor controls. The instrument panel retains its factory main gauge cluster housing alongside the aftermarket auxiliary instrumentation.

The engine bay houses a 351ci Windsor V8 built using a C9OE cylinder block bored .030 over, a balanced crankshaft, and 1970-specification cylinder heads. The engine is fitted with an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley 750-cfm double-pumper carburetor, a Lunati camshaft, Crane 1.7-ratio roller rocker arms, a Mallory Unilite distributor, and Tri-Y exhaust headers leading to Flowmaster mufflers. An auxiliary vacuum canister is installed to supply vacuum assist for the power braking system. Cooling is managed by two electric fans--one thermostatically controlled and one manually operated via a toggle switch. Power is sent to a factory 7.5-inch rear axle housing 3.08:1 differential gears through the factory-retained 5-speed manual transmission.

The chassis is equipped with bolt-on subframe connectors. The front suspension utilizes 90/10 drag-style struts, while the rear features adjustable air shocks. Braking is converted to a 4-wheel power disc system utilizing slotted rotors, an updated master cylinder, and matching emergency brake cables.

The seller indicates that the receipts for parts, paint and the vehicle purchase itself totaled to around $15,000, not including labor. Additional photos supplied by the seller showcase what the car originally looked like before the modifications, as well as during the modifications.
