Wrench Report
RestoMods Head Mechanic. 20 year classic car mechanic & builder.
Red "572" stitching in the headrests isn't a boast, it's a promise, and this Viper Red El Camino keeps it with a GM crate big block wearing aluminum heads, an Edelbrock high-rise manifold, and FAST fuel injection! A 4L80E automatic under the command of a transmission control unit sends that torque down an aluminum driveshaft to a Currie 9-inch rear end, while the 3-inch exhaust with 12-volt cutouts lets you choose between quiet cruising and full volume. Hotchkis suspension, drilled and slotted Wilwoods at all four corners with Hydroboost, and fresh Pirelli P Zero tires keep every one of those 572 cubic inches under control!
Description
Viper Red paint and a powder-coated frame mark this 1970 Chevrolet El Camino as a fully custom build. Powered by a GM 572 crate engine with FAST fuel injection and paired with a 4L80E automatic transmission managed by a transmission control unit, this Chevrolet is fitted with Wilwood brakes at all four corners, a Currie 9-inch rear end, Hotchkis suspension, and Vintage Air air conditioning. The El Camino is offered with a clean Colorado title and a large amount of build receipts.

Viper Red paint covers the El Camino's coupe utility body, complemented by a cowl induction hood, chrome front and rear bumpers, and Hotchkis hood pins.

The car rides on 18-inch polished chrome wheels wrapped in new Pirelli P Zero tires, measuring 275/45 in the rear and 235/50 in the front.

Red "572" stitching marks the headrests of the black leather Corbeau seats, which also carry red stripes, and the door panels and headliner are color matched. A carbon fiber center console with red "572" stitching holds the window switches and two cup holders. Power windows and power vents are installed, and Vintage Air air conditioning is included.

Auto Meter Pro Comp gauges fill the instrument panel, including the odometer showing 4,235 miles, and the gear selector is mounted in the carbon fiber console. An Alpine stereo handles audio, paired with two V12 amplifiers set into the trunk wall.

Displacing 572 cubic inches, the GM crate engine is topped with aluminum heads and an Edelbrock aluminum high-rise intake manifold with aluminum fuel rails, and FAST fuel injection meters the fuel. A new ECU was installed in 11/2024, and a Milodon oil pan sits under the block. Ceramic-coated Lemons headers feed a 3-inch exhaust with 12-volt cutouts. The 4L80E transmission sends power through an aluminum driveshaft to the Currie 9-inch rear end. A Blue Sea Systems 9001e battery cutoff switch and two new batteries complete the electrical system.

Hotchkis suspension components are mounted to a powder-coated frame. Stopping comes from drilled and slotted Wilwood brakes at all four corners, assisted by a Hydroboost system.
